We understand that sometimes unexpected twists and turns can occur during your university application journey, whether it’s unexpected exam results, changes in your chosen course choice, or unforeseen circumstances. There is support available to help you successfully navigate through Clearing. 

View this as an opportunity for growth and success. Stay positive and adaptable and you’ll find a course to best suit your needs.

Friday 5 July 2024 Clearing Opens
Wednesday 24 July 2024  Deadline to accept or decline any existing UCAS offers (including UCAS Extras)
Tuesday 6 August 2024 SQA results are published in Scotland
Thursday 15 August 2024  A Level and BTEC Nationals results are published
Thursday 22 August 2024 BTEC Technical and Tech awards are published
21 October 2024 Clearing 2024 closes
  • If you have already applied via UCAS by 30 June 2024 and are not matched with your chosen firm or insurance choice once you get your results, then you will be entered into Clearing. 
  • If you don’t have an active UCAS application, you can also enter Clearing directly with a new application.

Your Clearing Questions Answered

  • You’ve received your exam results and they are higher than predicted. Firstly congratulations, you will be perfectly positioned to stick to your original course choice. However, in an exciting plot twist, you may now want to explore other options or course pathways. 

    Take your time to consider your options, However, if you do decide that you want to change your original university or course choice then you will need to decline your existing offer via UCAS and enter Clearing. 

    We offer a wide-range of course options across Art, Science, Engineering, Education, Humanities, Management and Health, all designed to prepare you for your chosen career. This could be the perfect time to expand your horizons, Whether you choose to continue as planned or embark on a new journey with us at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, your future is bright. 

    Our friendly Clearing hotline will be available to talk through your options.  

  • Clearing can be useful if you have changed your mind about what you want to study at university. It opens up exciting opportunities for you to consider, with courses that might better match your career goals and aspirations. 

    • Do your research as early as you can to explore alternative courses that might meet your needs. 
    • Check that you meet the entry requirements for your new preferred course.  
    • Contact our Clearing hotline for information and advice on transferring courses. Our team are there to make your transition onto a new pathway as smooth as possible.
  • Life is full of unexpected turns. It is perfectly normal to reconsider your choices, including your university offer. If your circumstances have changes, perhaps you have decided that you want to study at a different university, or need to study closer to home, it is important to carefully consider your options. If you do decide to decline your existing offer, the Clearing process is designed to help you find an alternative course that may better suit your needs.

  • Once you’ve received your exam results, take a deep breath and stay calm. Remember that getting your results is just the start of your higher education journey and many exciting paths remain open to you. Universities clearly understand that your potential is not just based on exam grades. 

    Firstly contact your firm and insurance choice to see if there is any flexibility on their side. They may still be able to offer you a place on your chosen course or offer an alternative. 

    Otherwise, you are able to enter Clearing, where you can discover different courses that also match your interests. Clearing isn’t about finding a second option, it is about finding new opportunities that might suit you even better than your first choice. For example, perhaps a Foundation course might be of interest to you to help you to further build on your skills and experiences. 

    This is a great time to reflect on what you want from your higher education experience. Often unexpected results open doors to great new options that you may not have previously considered. Keep an open mind and stay positive, you might find that unexpected results in fact lead you to exactly where you are meant to be.

  • If you find yourself not meeting the entry requirements for your firm or insurance choices, don’t worry. There will be other paths to take on your higher education journey and it might be an opportunity to explore new possibilities. 

    Firstly check with your firm or insurance institutions as there may be some flexibility for them to accept you or your original course choice. However, if your original choices don’t work out then you will automatically be entered into Clearing, where you can find alternative courses to study

    Be flexible, perhaps consider options to study a different subject or study at a different location. Clearing can open many new doors and help you to find an exciting path that perhaps you hadn’t considered before.

  • Deferring your university entry for a year is a common option and will allow you to plan and prepare for university at your own pace. If you have already met the required entry requirements for your chosen course, then talk to your firm institution to help you to understand the options and processes to defer. 

    Perhaps you have deferred and are now reconsidering your academic plans. If you have deferred and have your results then Clearing is a good option if you want to reconsider your original course choice and perhaps now want to reapply elsewhere.

  • Clearing is open to both BTEC and A Level students. Results are published on 15 August 2024. 
    However, if you are planning to go through Clearing, you can give yourself a a head-start by preparing early

    Research courses and universities that might best suit your learning style and career aspirations. Reflect on your BTEC or A Level experiences and how they might influence your preferences for future study. 

    When you are ready to begin your Clearing journey, the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Clearing enquiry form is an excellent starting point. As soon as you have your results then our dedicated team is here to support you, and find a course to match your ambitions. 

    We offer diverse range of subjects, many of which incorporate the vocational and practical elements you’ve already experienced during your BTEC or A Level studies. 

    Your BTEC or A Level qualifications are highly valued by universities with available places for September. 

  • If you’re an Access student considering university, Clearing provides an opportunity to find a university program that matches your ambitions and academic interests. It’s designed to help you navigate your options smoothly and effectively, ensuring you find a place where you can thrive. 

    With your Access qualifications, you’ve already demonstrated commitment and capability in pursuing higher education. Universities value the diverse perspectives and robust skill sets that Access students bring. 

    Our helpful team will help you to explore your options through Clearing, including flexible entry, part-time courses and distance learning options.

  • If you are keen to start university this September, but haven’t submitted a UCAS application, then there is good news. Once you have your results then you can apply directly through Clearing. This is a great opportunity for you to find a course and university to suit you. 

    • Start by researching your chosen subject area or institution to see if it is the right fit for you. 
    • You will then need to complete a new UCAS application, including writing a personal statement and providing a reference too. These elements will help to showcase your passions and aspirations to your chosen university.

    Once you have secured a placement at a university, you can look forward to the exciting educational opportunities that await you. 

  • As a mature student, perhaps with no recent formal qualifications then talk to our friendly team about your options. We can discuss any qualifications and work experiences that you do have and find the best course pathways to meet your needs.

  • Our dedicated team can support you to find the best accommodation option to suit your needs. Email accommodation@uwtsd.ac.uk

  • All first years studying at our Carmarthen or Lampeter campuses are guaranteed accommodation in halls of residence. 

    Once you have secured your place at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, you can complete an accommodation application via Hallpad (uwtsd.ac.uk) 


     

  • Across our Swansea campuses we work in partnership with private accommodation providers. There are a wide range of purpose build student accommodation options available.
