What is your favourite thing about Swansea campus?

My favourite part of campus is the studio. The large windows spanning the walls of the studio create amazing light to work in, and there’s such a buzzing, energetic atmosphere during the height of projects. Having all the year groups together in one studio creates a real sense of community – we all take inspiration from one another’s work, share tips and tricks with each other, and keep each other motivated.

Why did you choose ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø?

I was really excited by the range of workshops available, and the course’s emphasis on being multidisciplinary. I liked that students were encouraged to learn whole processes – from coating screens to colour matching pigments – to encourage independence.

What do you enjoy outside your studies?

In my spare time I love walking and spending time in nature – Swansea has the best beaches for this! It’s really encouraged my connection to the local landscape, which in turn has sparked inspiration within my practice. I also love reading, sewing, and baking.

What do you hope to do when you graduate?

For this next year after graduating, I would like to continue working on my natural dye research – especially as I will be back in England and with a whole new landscape of dye plants to investigate. I would love to collaborate with like-minded artists, teach workshops, and visit colleges and universities with my work to encourage others to think sustainably.

I would also like to get work experience or an internship within the interiors industry to further develop my practical skills and gain knowledge of how studios/workshops operate. I am also considering an MA after a gap year to specialise further.

What is your favourite thing about your course?

I loved that we had so many visiting artists, speakers and graduates talk about their experiences, it was very inspiring. Also, I thoroughly enjoyed the contextual aspect of the course. I have always loved reading and writing, and while the course encouraged exploring the works of other practitioners, it also pushed me to go outside of the design context into science, politics, and philosophy.

Would you recommend ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø and why?

Absolutely! The facilities at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø are fantastic. You are heavily encouraged to go outside of your comfort zone and try everything, which develops your skills enormously. The tutors are beyond supportive and are always willing to facilitate different techniques or put you in contact with the right people to make it happen.
