Sophie's BA Surface Pattern and Textiles Experience
What was your favourite thing about Swansea campus?
The campus my course was situated in was in the centre of Swansea. One of my favourite aspects was how close Swansea’s beaches and museums are to campus. Having these close encouraged frequent visits.
Why did you choose ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø?
I chose ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø as the place to study as the university is one of the best in the UK for Textiles. I wanted to study somewhere I knew would encourage and support my creativity and I believed this University was right for me.
What did you enjoy outside your studies?
I have lived in Swansea with my family all my life. Outside of the course I enjoyed spending time with them, visiting Mumbles, and going for walks along the Swansea coast. I am very close with my family, and they have been a big support and encouragement throughout my study. It was a very proud moment bringing them to our Degree Show Opening night to showcase my work.
What do you hope to do when you graduate?
After I graduate, I hope to find a creative role within the industry. Throughout the last few years on my course, I have been provided with the skills for after university. I feel ready to put my creativity out into the world and hope to find a creative role which allows for my own creative ideas, but also a role which I can continue to learn new creative skills in as I enjoy being a versatile designer. I would also say that in years to come, I would like to consider teaching as this is another aspiration of mine.
What was your favourite thing about your course?
My favourite thing about my course was the amazing selection of resources which were available within the workshops in Surface Pattern and the studio environment. I would say that I enjoyed spending time in the print room, experimenting with screen print and textiles printing. I also really liked the studio spaces within Surface Pattern – it inspired design discussions but also created a friendly design atmosphere.
Would you recommend ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø and why?
I would definitely recommend ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø and especially Surface Pattern and Textiles as although hard work and skill are important aspects of creativity, I believe passion is also key. ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø and Surface Pattern allow for their students to be passionate and proud of their work and what they want to achieve.
